For Those Who Seek Treatment at Kobe University Hospital

Publically-funded Medical Treatment

In addition to general medical insurance systems, there are two types of public financial support available under the current medical system. One is disease-based, providing public funds to those with intractable rare diseases. The other is a form of public assistance as a welfare initiative. Local prefectural and municipal governments are responsible for approving this funding. Coverage becomes effective the day that the application to the appropriate department at your local government body is accepted. If you wish to receive public assistance for medical treatment, consult your attending doctor and visit the Medical Welfare Office on the 1st floor of the outpatient clinic building as soon as your diagnosis is confirmed.

There are also other programs sponsored on a prefectural level for those with intractable diseases. Some require treatment at designated medical institutions, while others are based on contracts with individual prefectures.

Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.
