Breast Surgery

In the Department of Breast Surgery, we are treating the patients with breast cancer. Not only surgery, drug therapy is also important for the cure of this disease. Besides, mental support is essential for the patients and families. So, doctors and nurses are making a team for all kinds of the treatment on the patients.

Medical Services

Our department specializes in breast cancer treatment, clinical and basic research and education. We consist a team of doctors as 2 certified surgeons from the Japanese Breast Cancer Society, with trainees, interns and researchers. We are working at two hospitals, main hospital of Kobe University and ICCRC.

Treatment policy

To treat the patients with best treatment technique in the world, we have a close cooperation with the Department of Pathology, Medical Oncology, Radiology and Plastic Surgery.

Specialities

Imaging examinations as mammography, ultrasound and CT scan are important before the surgery and especially MRI is the most important for the breast conserving surgery to avoid secondary surgery after the diagnosis of “margin positive” as the post operative pathological diagnosis. We give the recommendation of post operative drug therapy, chemotherapy and/or endocrine therapy for most of the patients depending on the recurrent risk and the subtype on pathological result of tumor. If necessary, the genetic test is recommended for decision to receive chemotherapy or not.
